Por su parte, los detractores suelen focalizar su balance en los rasgos críticos de la segunda fase, por lo general pasando por alto varios de los ejes distintivos del primer tramo de la economía kirchnerista. En consecuencia, entre la “década ganada” de unos y la “década perdida” de otros el análisis se empobrece sobremanera y no arroja suficientes herramientas de juicio para abordar al kirchnerismo como lo que fue (y como lo que suelen ser la gran mayoría de los gobiernos): un proceso de una complejidad muy marcada, plagado de contradicciones y signado por diferentes momentos que es preciso captar e interpretar para aproximarse a una caracterización lo más fidedigna posible del funcionamiento reciente de la economía argentina», expresa el prólogo.

Ni todo lo ocurrido bajo el kirchnerismo fueron aciertos de líderes preclaros, ni fueron tampoco sus groseros errores: fue una disputa entre sectores sociales, cuyo resultado es siempre contingente e incompleto. En cada caso, y para construir la mirada de conjunto del período, es necesario captar el conflicto de intereses en juego, lo mismo que la distribución de beneficios y pérdidas resultantes: un enfoque que sólo la economía política crítica puede aportar».
